Breakout Session #1 - "From AI Cheats to Classroom Feats"
From AI Cheats to Classroom Feats presents a forward-thinking approach to the use of AI tools in the classroom. While much digital ink has flowed about AI as the ultimate cheat sheet, there's been less discussion on whether to allow students to use AI, and even less on how exactly they should use it. In this presentation, we will discuss several unavoidable conclusions drawn from recent developments in generative AI, laying the groundwork for a thoughtful examination of AI's role in student learning. We aim to identify the concerns that should guide our collective efforts towards a response that both recognizes the inevitability of AI and leverages its capabilities to improve educational practices. Discover how adopting AI can equip students for a future where proficiency in AI is not just advantageous but necessary.

Breakout Session #1 - "Leveraging CIS Controls for Enhanced Security Posture Mapping to the NIST Cybersecurity Framework"
This session will focus on using the Center for Internet Security (CIS) Controls to assess and improve security measures, and then mapping these controls to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) for strategic alignment and compliance with the controls identified as part of the NYSED Data Security Review.

The objective is to learn methodologies for assessing cybersecurity using CIS Controls and to discover how to map CIS Controls to NIST CSF categories and conduct a baseline gap analysis.

The workshop will include an overview of key CIS Controls, examples of effective application in educational institutions, step-by-step guidance on aligning CIS Controls with NIST CSF categories, and an interactive exercise to practice mapping based on case scenarios.

Tier I Sponsor Session - Ed-Fi - "AI and Analytics Are Here: Is Your Data House in Order?"
There is a lot of excitement around the promise of AI and advanced analytics to deliver personalized learning at scale while reducing the administrative burden on teachers, staff, and leadership.

There is plenty of concern as well, especially given how rapidly these technologies are being embedded in already purchased edtech. Worries about biased models, data breaches, infrastructure costs, and more are increasingly on the minds of CTOs and CISOs.

What data sources will these large language and predictive models need to access? Can that data be transmitted securely? Is that data interoperable with data about the same students from adjacent sources? How can we ensure that these models are accessing an equitable breadth and depth of students?

In the absence of secure, interoperable data, education is playing from behind in readying itself for a data-hungry, exponentially expanding technology that is making its way into classrooms and boardrooms.

In this session, we’ll discuss how gathering data in Ed-Fi-compliant Operational Data Store (ODS) can support safe deployments of downstream applications such as generative AI, predictive analytics and more.
